The Efficacy of Non-Surgical Interventions for Pediatric Flat Foot: Systemic Review
Hwang Soo-Hyun

Shim Jae-Hoon
Abstract
The purpose of this systematic review was to compare the therapeutic effects of various nonsurgical interventions in children with flat feet. A systematic search of two electronic databases (Google Scholar and PubMed) was conducted before March 2021, and of the 805 articles retrieved, 14 studies met the inclusion criteria. Among the nonsurgical interventions investigated, medial longitudinal arch and foot angles of the foot were shown to be more effective than other nonsurgical interventions of the foot orthosis (FO) and static stretching programs of the lower extremities. In addition, in the case of arch support and strength strengthening exercise, pain reduction and balance improvement were effective, and the activity daily living (ADL) of children with flat feet was improved. In conclusion, we suggest that the application of foot orthosis and static stretching exercises to lower extremity muscles could have a positive influence on treatment directly for pediatric flatfoot patients as an alternative to other nonsurgical interventions.
